Caney Pond Thursday
Picking up son at TTU and fishing the pond on kayaks Thursday from about 10-4. Looks like 38-45 degrees and wind at 4-6 mph. We'll dress warmly and have PFD's.
Looks like there's likely to be 2 generators on. Trout Magnets on the pond and TM cranks thrown towards the generator boils is the thought.
Anyone think they'll be other species up that way with all the recent generation? Other lure suggestions?
Thanks
Billy

You could also toss some Kastmaster spoons into the mix, but magnets and cranks would be my go to lures also. I was up there last Sunday on low water and white TM's were the ticket. Good luck!

If you're going to be fishing the generators then I would go with something heavier than Trout Magnets. The Trout Magnets won't get down in the current. I would think the Trout Magnets would do well in the calm areas, and I would go with a jerkbait, or like Troutfriend stated a casting spoon may do well also.

Jeremy is correct....TM won't do you any good in the boils...and while the TM Trout Cranks may catch you some fish you might also want to try bigger cranks in there. Now if you want some crappie go over to the water fall and paddle up to about 25 feet from base of dam. You will be sitting in a deep trough. That is where you need to try the TM and CM. See the pic. Best of luck.

There should be plenty of trout as well as crappie, bluegill, and walleye. Just depends if you can get them to eat or not!

Thanks everybody. Good info as usual. Should have time to try out all these tactics, so we'll see what happens.

Wound up being a gorgeous day and had the pond to ourselves from 10-5. Many crappie, a rainbow and a 17" brown were caught.

Congratulations. Those are beauties. Is that a sauger in the pic with the crappie?

Great mess of fish there. Were you free lining/jigging or dead sticking for the Crappie?

Shorts yes, my oldest. Rainbow in with the crappie, got discolored from the ice it was in.
We were throwing CM's on 1/16 and 1/8 jig heads and twitching them back to us on the retrieve.
Thanks all,
Billy

Superb
All I want for Christmas is a full at at the Pond.
Since I've been bad I think I'll get a Pond full of generation.
