Default Old Hickory Lake fishing report 9/18/2014

I have been looking for white & yellow bass since their's that much bait shad everywhere on OHL. You would think they would be busting the bait on top.A friend told me they were across the lake along the cliff face in deep water, so I look and found the bait all up and down the rock face shore line. But nothing busting them when I look maybe I need to go early in the morning. I go out just about every morning looking and all I catch is LM bass and drum and that's in the first two hours then nothing. The water temp as been in the low 70's and lately in the high 60's. I been using the sexy dawg top water and #5 shad rap on the bass with some luck. I also use my inline spinner that looks like a rooster tail in white for white & yellow bass when I find them. Lately the bass are to busy eating bait shad they don't want rubber. I'm going back out tomorrow and try again, so good luck fishing and GOD BLESS........WOODY

Thats a bummer!
Good report though!
I figured with the cold winter the baitfish would have taken a bigger hit, and maybe they have i just havent seen the effects of it the places where i fish.
Your gonna be there though on just the right day and your gonna wear your arms out on them! Lol

I talk to a friend and he told me that he is catching crappie on the brush piles now and they are up to 15". So I watch him fish and he was catching big slab crappie, but you need to know where the brush piles are. I don't have a GPS so when I find them I have to remember where they are and look for them again. so tomorrow morning I'm going looking for brush piles and see if I can get some crappie to eat. So till tomorrow ..............woody

Good luck. Ron and I fished Wed but not much activity. Going to hit it tomorrow early and see if top waters might work. Been told by guide that LM should be starting to move up soon and I hope so cause ledge fishing has been terrible based I guess on lack of current.

I want back out today and found that I had better luck dead sticking and drifting then casting and retrieving in 10' to 20'. I had a lot of hits which I think were bluegills not crappie. I'm going back out in the morning and try a smaller jig,so till then good luck and GOD BLESS..................WOODY

It's tough Woody. One day I can find fish then 3 days of nothing at all. Will be glad when the fall pattern starts.
