vacationing to pigeon forge fishing help

I will be staying at the pin oak parkway inn.While im there I would love to get into some trout fishing on spin gear.
If anyone has any advice since this will be my first time to Tennessee and trout fishing.
I would like a few spots with directions on how to get there from my hotel if possible and maybe some different baits to try out.
I also heard that pigeon forge has some nice smallmouth fishing as well.
Any help you guys can give would be great.

In front of the Apple Barn Winery / resturant in a Pigeon Forge / Seveirville. You can park in their parking lot and walk across the street to the river. I had some luck in front of it and moving up towards the bridge. My friend was catching small mouth under the bridge and a little further up. You will see the areas that hold the small mouth. Not sure what bait he was using I was using a watermelon tube and caught a nice trout under the bridge. It may still be there. It was about 20".

The Apple Barn is good access but the bottom end of trout water really and the picking up of smallie water.

I notice you as well as others keep mentioning the apple barn for smallies.
Is the the apple barn that is right across from my hotel in pigeon forge area?
Also are they plenty of bank access up through there or do I need to wade it?
The prong system I kepe hearing about is really confusing to me.
ILl wait on you to get off work to explain where i need to head for the trout.

Yes its the same Apple Barn. There is also an Orvis shop (building in front of the Apple Barn) that can help out with the current bite.

Yes but some hotels don't allow you to just park. You can find pull off's and it's not too deep to just walk it some though.

Think of it as three fingers sticking out. All are the little Pigeon River and all go the French Broad. The one which runs by the road all through Sevierville/Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg is the West. The East comes in by the Airport in Sevierville. Spin gear I prefer light line 2lbs but 4lb isn't out of the question. Fluorocarbon increases your numbers but isn't essential in those line sizes above. You can use what ever line you have then just a a smaller leader from a leader spool if need be as well.

What to use:

Artificial- trout magnets if i could only have one it would be white, three add black and pink for up there. Inline spinners keep small 1/32 or 1/16 in pretty much same colors. Small rapala countdown type baits work well in addition to those.

Bait- corn works as does the multi-colored (flavored) small marshmallows you buy at the store. Red wigglers work good but there is a trick I was taught years ago that seems pretty much standard on trout streams for added success. Use light line (4lb fluorocarbon) with a small hook and a BB shot. Thread the worm on leaving half on half off then add a chartreuse crappie nibble on the hook point to cover it. For some reason trout come unglued on this setup. When I bait fished for them, I emptied countless tubs catching trout on about every worm.

Disclaimer * if you fish in the national park city limits it is single hook artificial baits only *

Smallies you can get buy with 6 maybe... 8lb test. They will hit a wide variety of things but if you can catch them on topwater why throw anything else. Long cast ahead as some pool s are shallow. They will hit live minnows on a hook + split shot drifted into deep holes or current areas.

Rule of thumb typically closer to Pigeon Forge more trout less smallies. Apple Barn by you is a good starting point and about the end of trout beginning of smallie water.

Smallies:

Park in shopping center then cross road go either upstream or down

Park at Walgreens cross road and go either upstream or down

Directions to the East Prong at Red Bank area. This is about the middle point upstream towards mountains is trout more so and down towards Sevierville is smallie/rock bass more so. There are pull off scattered since the road follows the river for quite a ways.

A lot of locals fish the Park in Sevierville while I haven't it does have good fishing.

These are just a few but also keep an eye out heading between the last red light in Pigeon Forge going to Gatlinburg for the various pull offs. You can fish those as well for trout. Once in the city of Gatlinburg you can't fish on Thursdays and you have to have a city permit. It's an extra step to get to fish by buying the permit buy really fun while your wife shops all day in town you can fish the stream easily walking it. The hop out grab lunch and a brew then repeat or sight see.

Also I didn't mention always ask locals where ever you go. Find a shop (Orvis would be convenient to you) for the up to date info and places that may be hot. Wal-Mart up there is fully stocked with everything you will need and if not Orvis might but Bass Pro back by I-40 definitely should.

No for any of the links or on the drive between pigeon forge to gatlinburg. Only in city limits of gatlinburg does it apply. They have thier own hatchery so its not "state" fish so to speak.

Well i think im set.Got places to try for bass and trout, you gave me a few baits to try.Which would you say is best top water baits by the way?
