Default Lock 4 Old Hickory KBFTN write-up

On Tuesday June 24th we had our 5th of 12 events of the season, so we are almost halfway through the season. The event was located out of Lock 4 on Old Hickory Lake. Craig and I spoke two days before the event and deciding if we were going to postpone, he said not yet and I agreed. We decided to watch the weather closely, and if we do decide give 24hr notice. The day before the tournament we spoke and again and we decided to roll with it. Safety is our number one concern with being fun, and enjoyable coming in close second.

The day of the event I was getting messages and phone calls being asked if it was being cancelled, I had worked 3rd shift the night before and was trying to sleep, but I think I answered every text and call. “Sorry if I were grumpy”
On the way to the event the sky was black with 25-30mph winds, and I was thinking to myself I sure hope this blows over, and by the time we arrived at Lock 4 it had blown over all besides a few drops. We have Sarah’s 13 year old brother with us for a few weeks and he came with us and Craig let him borrow a kayak. He doesn’t fish, but figured he could follow Sarah around.

We got everyone registered and on the water right at the projected time of 5:15pm with a total of 26 anglers. I decided to crank the creek channel near the main river, then after that didn’t pan out I went shallow throwing a toad, shakey head, texas rigged lizard, spinnerbait, and square bill. I had one blowup on a toad 10 minutes before check-in and couldn’t connect.

I was the first to arrive at check-in and shortly after a guy showed up to check in and I told him to give me a few minutes, and he was very persistent that I check-out his fish. Scoring/judging/sorting money, and everything usually takes 30-40 minutes, and we finished up on the low side of 30 minutes, just in time for me to get home shower and get back to work with 10 minutes to spare.

John Coffman won the event with total inches and big fish netting him $705. Craig Dye finished 2nd winning $50, the Redneck Yak Club Dalton and Rhett Parker won $35, and $25 respectively, and last cash of $15 was paid out to Mike Taylor.

If you would like to see the full results of the event please look at the attachment.

That's incredible. For those who don't know, the guy who won big fish, 1st place, and the Hook a Hawg bag for that 700 dollar prize was a first timer to the tournaments and just bought his kayak last week.

He basically paid for his yak with his first tournament and that's a fishing story he'll be telling for the rest of his life!

I wish I could have made it but that's too far from work to get there in time.

He's spoiled now, he'll never enjoy one of our tournaments that much again!

I am surprised the carrot stix rod actually held up to that fish. He should hold onto that money so he can afford to pay S&H for the warranty rods he will need Very nice fish and fantastic payout.
