Default Caught my biggest fish from JPP on Saturday

Went to JPP to troll for hybrids and then later fish with live shad. I actually snagged this big carp ... hooked the fish on the dorsal fin. Was trolling with 1/2 oz. jig with 4" Sassy Shad down rigged on 15 lb. Big Game line. The fish weighed 42 lbs. on the Boga-Grip.

The photo of me was taken by the fish and wildlife guys who were patrolling yesterday. I also have a video of me releasing the fish.

I did hammer the hybrids on live shad later in the afternoon!

Default Awesome!

Nice fish and great picture. You look happy to say the least. I bet that thing pulled like a freight train being foul hooked vs. in the mouth. How long did it take to land her?

I just re-read your post. You were using 15 pound line! Were you also using one of those fairly small spinning rod/reels I see in the rod holder behind you and to your right? DANG.

I was using a 7' Ugly Stik medium action with a Shimano Cardiff 400 series reel (lots of line and a great drag). Once I realized the rod was not hung up, I cranked up the down riggers and turned the boat back towards the fish. I had to land the fish twice, I dipped it the first time and the dip net tore and the fish went right through the bottom of the net and back into the lake. It took quite a while to land the fish, I would get it close to the boat, then it would take off.

The attached photo shows the fish in the boat's 50 gallon live well.
