SUV rod carrier?

I am just looking for ideas on easy transport ideas when traveling without spending a fortune. There are those DIY versions with PVC that I am interested in making but not quite sure about. Also has anyone used the clothing bars inside for hanging the in the car opposed to out?

Would also like to be able to haul a flyrod (9ft) in there if possible without breaking it down.

What's the SUV? Just asking because lots of difference between a RAV4 and a full size Bronco.

I used to have a "forward" line with loops and an "aft" line with loops. One "aft" of the rear seats of the suburban; one "forward" of the front seats. I could hang 6 rods/reels without having them become a tangled mess. Just took a couple minutes invested in putting them in. It was worth it to avoid the frustration and many minutes of de-clustering the mess of laying them on the floor.

if it were me, i would go the PVC route. take your rods, (no reels ofcourse) and wrap them up in towels or a soft sheet or something to make them as tight as possible, then you can gauge what size diameter tube you need (ya want a tight fit to prevent shifting, but not so tight you have to struggle to get them in and out). add a couple caps and you have a water tight, snug, rod carrier out of the way of anything in the car. Take it up a notch and cut a chunk of soft foam for both ends of the tube to prevent the rods from sliding forward and backward when ya have to brake or speed up quickly. The tighter in there they are, the better.
you can "stack" your rods by alternating butt end to tip when ya wrap them up so you dont need a large tube too, a few cork rod butts together gets pretty sizable pretty quick.
Ive shipped my rods all over the country, via plane and vehicle and this is the best way ive found to make sure they get to thier destination in tact!

Sorry good point. I have a 2005 4 door Ford Explorer.

Last year, when going to the beach I zip-tied the rods together then to the clothing hooks inside. That technically worked but I'd like something a little more durable to getting bumped and can be reused/removed.

Travis, I have a buddy that did this inside his Tahoe. If you just hook a bungee to the rear clothes bar hook and another to the hook over 2nd row seats this will get the job done. One bungee per row and just enough tension so they rods stay out of headroom. He would put his rods in with the reels toward the rear and off he went. My only tip for the weather we are having is to not keep them in the car too long and if you absolutely have to, make sure they are not bending at all or you could end up with a little warp.
