Percy Sat Night 5/31
Trolled some cranks in the kayak at Percy on Saturday night. The bite started right off the bat on the first pass hooked and caught two bass. Then turned and came back along the same shoreline catching two more. It was pretty much like that all night long until morning with a mixed bag of fish. Fishing from 11pm-4am or so. Don't know how many I caught but took home a few cats, bass and gills for a neighbor who wanted some fish for his sons.
Went into the night thinking a shad rap would be the ticket and it was the first couple passes then I changed one rod out to a XXXX crankbait . That changed made all the difference as it got hammered to the point where I put the shad rap up and used one rod. One stretch, I caught 3 fish within a 20-30 yard stretch one after the other.
Fun times...
Here's a couple blurry pics I took and didn't take many since it was at night.

Nice bunch of fish!
Wish I was more of a night fishing fan, back in the day I was. Now, getting old and lazy.

I have been night fishing the last three or four weekends in a row. Usually I get up with my girls at 6-7am Saturday then fish all night and will hit the bed Sunday night.
Think I will take this weekend off and get normal sleep. It's catching up with me fast.

Nice fish, Travis. What do you use to keep the bugs away?

Congrats on good trip. browntrout wants us to fish for Smallies at night but my eyes can't deal with the dark anymore. Wish I could as it can be some good action.

Travis if you want a fishing buddy for night trips let me know. I plan to do a lot of my fishing at night now, especially on JPP to avoid all the idiots and drunks. I can't quite swing 11pm-4am shifts but I can definitly do something like 7pm-1am. This is something I'd rather do with another angler.
And awesome job on the bass, looks like a good outing!

I would definitely suggest going with more than just yourself. I mean if you have to you have to but the more floating beacon lights out there the better.
It's hard for me to get out that early....haha "early" since I usually wait for my little ones to hit the bed before leaving. I will give you a shout next time I go at night on Percy.

Nice Travis, with a few more nights we may break into the top 20 in Kayak Wars.
I went out Sunday night, got on the water around 11:30pm, and left about 4am. The bite was not good. I caught about 10 largemouth, 1 smallmouth, 1 drum, 2 channel cats. The size of fish was nothing like it was Friday night/ Saturday morning. Everything came on the crank, I had 2 small bites on the buzzbait. The biggest fish of the night was a 21" Channel cat that hit my crank on top before I could even get a crank in. I lost a good hybrid that was around 20" right at the kayak due to stupidity, and lost the crank. I've got a bunch of blanks, so I think I'm going to start painting the hot color.
As for the bugs nomad60, I only run one light when needed, and the bugs are almost non-existent after 11pm. If you get close to the bank they come to you, but if you stay away from the bank a ways you're usually good.

I sprayed down good with bug spray but I don't think it really helps long term. Just be aware not to get bug spray with DEET on your line. Be careful applying to your hands as they tend to touch your line. That stuff will breakdown mono filament.
Staying away from shore helps and pray for a little breeze.
