Percy Priest 5/27 and 5/28
Fished And camped on Percy Priest the last two days. I launched out of Hamilton Creek Tuesday around 6am. I was really hoping for a couple of good days fishing and got everything I could have asked for.
I started out the day trolling umbrella rigs between two elongated points for hybrids. Got two rigs out behind the boat and hooked up on my first pass. As soon as I picked up the first rod the second rod hooked up. Slight problem as I was fishing alone...managed to land and release both fish. Ran into the exact same situation on my third pass. I fished the same area for a couple more hours then dropped my gear on an island and trailered up to run a couple errands.
Put the boat back in around 4pm and picked up a buddy to crappie fish for a coule hours. We trolled cranks for a coule hours and managed to catch 9 keepers. Some pretty good slabs mixed in. We switched back to the umbrella rigs around 7 and caught one hybrid before we called it.
I was back at it solo this morning because another friend canceled at the last minute. Fished the same spot from 530 until 1030. Got the rigs out and hooked up with a fish that took off pulling drag on the first pass. Fought it all the way to the net...right before it taught me a lesson in landing fish. I had ahold of the rig instead of my rod...he shook his head and was back to the depths with a buck tail jig in his mouth. I cussed and pissed and moaned for the next pass and a half until I hooked up with a freight train goin the opposite direction. Fought that fish for the next 15 minutes and landed a 22 pound striper! Left me shaking! For the next 3 hours I caught a fish on almost every pass. Caught two more over 10 pounds and probably 6 or 7 between 2 and 4 pounds. I kept one of the 4 pounders to share with some friends.
Ill hopefully be out again first of next week before I disappear for work until July.

Thanks guys! I about had to change my pants when I saw that shadow come up next to the boat.
Water temps was 78.
For some reason it didn't take the rest of my photos on the original post. Oh well, you guys know what hybrids look like. Ill throw one more on of last night's dinner.

Way to go Alex!! We've got to get together one of these mornings and do it again. Give me a shout when you need a partner on the boat!

Awesome report, I fish that area a lot out of my kayak and I like that place. I've floated out to deeper water before dropping jigging spoons off the side of the yak because I mark schools of large fish on the electronics in 25-40 feet of water, usually suspended. I bet those are groups of Hybrids and Rockfish but I was never able to find out. Now that I've gotten a little better with trolling I'm gonna try trolling some large crankbaits and swimbaits past them this Summer and see if I can hookup.
Great report, looks like you had a heck of a fishing trip!
