Some more finesse practice

I have been really having to work on my finesse fishing this year. I am mostly a power fisherman, and I have to make myself slow down. This time I only took finesse baits. I took one spinnerbait, but it was a finesse spinnerbait. I started out fishing the spot I fished last night, but it just wasn't happening there. I tried my Go 2 Baits 4.5 shaky and a zoom finesse worm. I started down the bank and tied on a wacky rig. I hooked one after bouncing the worm a few times. The next cast produced another nice 14" largemouth. When the second fish was fighting, it slung my senko off the hook. Since I didn't want to walk back and get another green pumpkin senko, I tied on a zoom finesse worm that I had in my pocket. I texas rigged this bait with a 2/0 worm hook and a 1/8 ounce bullet weight. I got a super chunky largmouth within a few minutes. I go an hour without a bite. Then I spot eaglestrike09 on his kayak. He said he caught 3 at the time on a white/chart. spinnerbait. I decide to try my first spot and I tied on a texas rigged watermelon purple trick worm. The first cast I hook a nice bass. It was a nice 13" bass. A few cast later I feel something that feels like I am hung up so I give the line a few pops. Then it starts to move! It fought like a 4 pounder but it still was only 14 inches long. It was quiet and peaceful for most the trip until the boat started coming out and the wind picked up around 10.

I was walking home following the trail in the woods. Right in the middle of the trail was a 3 foot long black snake. I screamed like a little girl. I couldn't move for 15 seconds. I don't know if it is worth it walking back through the same area tonight to fish some more.

Great report Issac, I'm not much of a finesse fisherman either, but definitely need to practice as there is definitely a need to have it ready when the time presents itself.

Nice work! I'm the complete opposite. I am all finesse, but struggle with spinnerbaits and cranks.

Issac, I started out as a pure finesse guy. I threw nothing but spinning rods and 8-12 lb line. I have fallen in love with power fishing over the last 4 years because of the amount I fish Guntersville. I still keep two spinning outfits in the boat at all time, one rigged with a shaky head and the other usually with a jerkbait. I think I forgot how much fun it was to actually fight a fish until this year when I was catching hybrids on 6 pound line.

What do yall mean, power or finesse fishing? Does this have to do with retrieve speed?

I love cranking, especially deep cranking, but i do out with a full arsenal. I come to spot "A" and run the crankbait thru it, whether i get any fish or not, i do the exact same thing with a bitsy tube or bitsy jig.
I mopped up on smallies last weekend fishing behind the power guys on priest. Spinner baits were clanging like cow bells all day and i come right behind them fishing small, not slow, just small and caught 2 times as many fish and alot of times, bigger fish. .
Most of the time when i bass fish, i fish small, but still fast. I will swim a bitsy bug and get hammered but wont get hit bouncing it along. Love my small baits.

Power Fishing (More eratic, or moving baits,generally heavier gear, and faster)
Finesse Fishing (Lighter line, light wire hooks, less weight, bait is on the bottom most of the time, slower presentation and smaller baits generally)

Although you can power fish with smaller baits, and can finesse fish with larger baits.

Power baits - Frogs, Spinnerbaits, Crankbaits, Buzz baits, Texas Rig

Finesse Baits - Hair jigs, Tubes, Shakey Heads, craws, grubs, (mostly soft plastics), carolina rigs down sized

Yep, I'm in the same arena has MNfisher. I fish 6 lb line on spinning rigs with smaller baits most of the time for bass and catch big bass on them. I will pick up a bigger crankbait or buzzbait and cast them on 10 -12 lb. line on a baitcaster. But my confidence baits and style is definitely finesse.
