Default Local Pond > Chickamauga

Well, maybe not really but that's what it was like for me this weekend.

I fished the CBY tournament at Chickamauga Saturday and the post cold front, rainy weather made for some tough fishing. Lots of skunks and one fish totals. With about 30 minutes left I finally got one on a spinnerbait. It was cool to see it dart out of the grass after it. Only 15.25" though. The guys who fish Chick a lot caught several fish and had some impressive totals.

Yesterday I drug my kayak through some disgusting muck and sludge to get it into a local pond in Franklin that I discovered. It took a while to figure out what was going to work in there as the fish were very skiddish and scared of larger noisy baits so frogs, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits were all ineffective. I pulled out the finesse worms and got to work. 3 largest bass were 16.5", 17.75", and then the big girl at 20.5"!!

I let out a Mike Iaconalli type yell when I got her in the net. The two biggest fish bumped me into the 14th out of over 200 anglers in the Kayak For A Cure tournament. I need another 20 incher out of that pond before it ends so I can solidify a top 10 finish.

I used SUMKINA Bait Company finesse worms, a company by a good friend of our family based out of Georgia. I hope to keep using his baits with success and help him spread his name around Tennessee.

Great looking fish Jimmy. We fished the River Bassin Tournament out of Silver Point, TN this weekend and we had a rough time also. It's not good when you start off the day breaking 3 All Pro rods, breaking a camera mount, and the front hatch.

He's working on getting his website up and running. He has been making baits for several years while him and his son constantly use them in tournaments to see what does and doesn't work. They've caught some impressive bags and placed in several events. He sent me some worms and frogs, some for me to play with, and the rest to donate to Kayak For A Cure as a prize. A few people have expressed interest in the frogs and worms just in the past week and I've been letting him know. He hasn't been selling them much except for a local shop down in Florida but as things pick up for him he'll be ready to have an online store and ship to where ever. I'll let you know when that is. In the meantime, I'm going to keep using his worms since I'm big on finesse worms anyway and help get his name out there.

The worms are about 6" long and very closely resemble the zoom finesse worms except longer and wider. Trust me, I'm always fishing finesse worms, these things are good!

Let me know when they come out. I can't wait to get my hands on some of those.

Next time I hit this pond I'm bringing the flyrod for gills. I need another 20" bass for Kayak For A Cure, if I get her early with some time leftover I'm switching to flyrod and small poppers because I saw lots of large gills in there.
