Default Great morning at Williamsport

Thought I could get in a couple of hours of leisurely fishing out at Blue Cat before the rain. Well I was wrong on the rain part. The first hour I was there it was just cloudy and I caught 23 black nose crappie....all 10-11 inches...that right there was a big surprise for that lake. I had a few small Gills that I didn't bother taking a pic of. Then I caught a 9 inch shell cracker and that made think of a spot that I have caught shell cracker off of the last few years. So I moved and the rain started...slow at first. I caught some nice 7 inch Gills and decided I better put my phone in the truck as it was really starting to come down...and it was a cold rain and no rain gear with me. When the first shell cracker hit there was no mistaking what it was. It was a 10 inch fish and I caught 8 more before taking one up to the truck to get a picture. Some of the shell crackers went 11 inches. I was soaked to the bone and wanted to leave but just couldn't pass the bite up. Caught a total of 19 shell cracker off that spot....all between 10-11 inches and had 8 Gill-Cracker cross all at 9 inches. Those Gill-Crackers sure are pretty fish. That was a total of 28 drag puling hard fighting fish....a fun morning....along with 23 crappie which gave me a little fight. Hated to leave but I was soaked and cold and had to give it up....hated to do that but just had to get warm. All fish were caught off of a Purple Redemption Trout Magnet using 2# test line. The crappie were hanging just off the edge of the dam about 10 feet out.....and plenty of them. The shell cracker were probably on bed....but not sure about that.

Regards

Great pictures Randy. But you are killing me with them. I am wondering if I will know how to cast a line when I return. I decided to go to the lake near by and try my luck.I know nothing about fishing in a lake especially when it is 55 degrees and the wind is blowing like crazy. But it still felt good.
You do great and I wish I was there. Maybe soon.
Thanks for the reports.

Awesome day Randy! You gotta be tough to stick it out and fish in that cold rain with no rain gear.

Thanks guys. I am just an "opportunistic" fisherman. Same as most on here....I am just blessed with the time to do it 4 or 5 days a week. I am going to put my poncho back in my vehicle today though....LOL. Am going to try the spot again today. Love catching those shell crackers.

Default Another great 2.5 hours.

Hit Blue Cat early again this morning and caught 26 more shell crackers and a couple of Gills. As you can see in the pic a Gill at Williamsport is not the same as the Gills in KY Lake.....smaller....but still fun. All the shell crackers were between 9 and 10 inches.....couldn't crack the 11 inch mark but it was a great morning fighting the top dog in the blue gill world. These fish were really colored up good....life is good!
