Default A River Runs Through It

With my wife away, I decided to hit the Caney.
Saturday 04/26/2014 6:30AM-11:30AM

I caught around 30 fish, excluding the skip jack.

The best of the day was a 22 inch brown. Followed the next cast by a 20 incher. Both released. Caught both on a float and fly rod and 4lbs test. A blast but tore my nerves to shreds. It also didn't help that my net was tangled on a crankbait for the 22 so I had to improvise and scoop the fish up with a Walmart hand basket. (See photo below) A group of Asians on the dam applauded when I finally landed the 22. How ridiculous I must have looked holding the U shaped rod, unloading the Walmart basket into the bottom of the boat and mumbling Oh My God! Oh My God! Caught many other smaller though respectable 14-17 inch browns. Saturday was a Brown day.

Sunday 04/27/2014 6AM-10:30AM
Caught around 25.

Zero generation at 6AM. I motored out and first cast hooked a monster. Again on the float and fly. Back reeling like a madman I could not move the fish. I saw it roll. It was dark and long but in the half light I could not tell if it was a mature rainbow or a brown. After about five minutes the hook pulled free. I caught five or six trout then a surprise. A nice crappie. Then another, and another. Then a 13 inch cow.

A single generator came on at seven and the crappie bite died. I caught another 10 trout and a few.... skippies. Huge trout? No TN tarpon.
Much slower than yesterday.

At nine #2 generator. The bite slowed again but caught around 10 more.

Finally at around 10:50 the siren roared again. Generator #3 coming on line. I pulled out. 10ft john boat verse three generators? No thanks.

I kept my limit each day to feed my father who told me he is wasting away from lack of fish. Can't have him starving.

Overall it was a great weekend. A fat long brown doubling over the float and fly rod, Asians clapping, and the water roaring- I'd do it every single day if I could.

Nice fish. To help your nerves try it with 2# test..... LOL. Then when you go back to 4# it won't be so bad.

Regards

Those are good numbers for those 2 days Lupanfreitag. I was up there last night from 12am-4am and the Walleye were keeping me company.

Way to go and I think the blue of that basket contrasts very nicely with the trout's colors
