109 Demolition

Neat clip of the 109 bridge demolition. Not sure if they are removing all or most of the bridge from the water…would make for some good structure.

I cross it a couple times a month heading home from KY via 31 to 109.

The new bridge is a little ridiculous. What's up with that divider in the middle of the bridge - looks like that's just waiting for an accident to split a car in half. The $29 million could have been much lower if they would have just built a bridge over it instead of something that looks like it fits in the middle of a large city.

Kenny, I think what you are seeing is the temporary Lane barriers while the are completing the other two lanes ...

I think it is a very beautiful bridge .. Entry gates, Light post.. What do you have against small cities .....I have driven over the old bridge for 40 years and I think it is a greatly needed improvement and especially the elegance of yester Year ... I really don't understand "building a bridge over it ??" <'TK><

I live in Portland and as soon as the 109 bypass is complete (4 lanes from I65-I40) the traffic flow will pick tremendously. The bridge will be a critical part of that. When there is heavy traffic or major accidents around nashville I hate to know what traffic will be like on 109 but that's part of growth I guess. I'm really interested to see what will happen for those of us who fish out of Bull Creek and turn on 109. For those turning toward Wilson Cty it could be very dangerous. To answer the other question, the metal framing was removed and sitting on barges before we blasted off Saturday morning, there wouldn't have been enough underwater clearance for barge traffic to be safe is what I was told.

I heard on the news they are removing the bridge that sunk. Hopefully some will b left behind.?

$29 million is a bargain. Karl Dean would spend that much on the AMP if he could. Then he would raise property taxes to keep it running for only a few riders each day.

If it was in Nashville, it would have been 290,000,000, property taxes would have to go up, and it would be a toll bridge.
