My dad and I fished Drakes Creek from the bank. We fished up stream from the first bridge off of Park Road, the one within sight of Kroger.
I tried a little of everything with no luck, until I went back to a Bison TM. I fished it under the bridge and the water was clear enough that I could see the fish.
I caught 8-10 bluegills. All were small, but they taught me something about fishing the TM. They would swim quickly up to the TM while I twitched it, but would not strike it. That is until I stopped twitching and let it fall on a tight line then they would nail it.
I started using this retrieve: twitch while reeling slowly through two handle rotations and then pause for a few seconds letting the TM fall on a tight line. They would hit on the fall or after the fall, when I started twitching again. Doing this I caught fish under the bridge and went back to areas I had previously struck out on catching fish the whole time.
They were all small but fun, informative, and beautifully colored.
With the concentration of little bluegill under the bridge and the way I observed them hiding in cover, I assumed there was probably some bass under there. I rigged a 4" slider worm in Irish Whiskey on a 1/16 oz spider head and caught a 16" spot on the first cast.
