Well i made a decision to get after the hybrids while the getting is good and it wasnt just good, it was great!
Started off bad, got to the lake late (had to help fiance set up the yard sale) got to the dam about 8-ish. lots of guys on both banks and 2-3 boats. i didnt see too much going on so i started just cruising around looking for something good on humminbird. after about 20 minutes of that i decided to just beat the bank in hopes of taker. found an area where mud met rock and first cast the rod about got jerked outta my hand...FISH ON!
looked down at the graph and it was just covered with bait with the big arcs just slashing thru it, i figured it was game on. NEGATIVE! the fish had other plans and entertaining me wasnt on thier to do list. I had also planned on checking out a place i got crappies at last spring so i headed there and the water is just too low right now. good temp, about 58, but the water needs to come up. So i went back to chasing some hybrids. I found a cove off the main lake with some bait on the screen so i dropped down my rattle bait (H20 Express, knock off of the Red Eye) in about 25 ft of water and started rip jigging, about 6 rips in at the top of the jerk, there was a hard smack and the bait didnt fall so i cranked up the slack and drilled it! off goes the drag....i could have sworn it was a big cat cause i felt it "rolling" on the line, i was wrong, big ole fat hybrid made a bathtub size boil at the top and screamed back down. now im grinning from ear to ear, get the fish in the boat, take a pic and toss it back.
Wind drifted closer to the a point during the fight so i figured i would take a toss by the bank for a bass since i was already there....BOOM! the Hybrids were stacked on this point, i mean STACKED! i got fish as shallow as 3ft and deep as 30. i was on that school of fish (or passing schools) for 4 hours ( i tossed out the anchor even!). there was about a 20 minute stretch about 11 oclock where i hooked/lost or hooked/landed a hybrid on everycast. it was phenominal! a few smallmouth and largmouth mixed in as well as a few big whites. soome of the bigger hybrids were really fat too!
no joke, no fish tales, i easily landed over 2 dozen hybrids in that few hours and lost about that same amount.
i attached some pictures, i didnt take too many as it was a pain with the tri-pod with the camera timer and the sun and all that so some of the pictures are really bleached out from the sun and me with a stupid look on my face wondering if i hit the button or not! LOL.
so that was my epic saturday and one that wont soon be forgotten for sure!!!!!!!
water temp was 54 in the am and 58 when i left about 4-ish, water wasnt dirty, but it was a funky kinda stained, almost like tea or something.
(Sorry for the long read, its so much fun re-telling it and re-living it)
Incredible day of fishing for sure!! There's a short window of opportunity this time of year when they're on fire. I went to a secret spot last night, well not so secret because it was full of waders and a few boats, and they were making lots of boils. Everyone caught one or two hybrids. I got a 17 incher but looking for one much bigger. Most caught were that size last night but there are MUCH bigger ones caught in this area every April. I'll make a few more trips out there before it's over.

I need more info, like coordinates to verify your story. :
its super simple, just come out of the boat ramp and make a right, look for the tilted rock and the dead tree sticking out of the ground, if you hear birds chirping, youve gone too far. LOL
if ya come across a mermaid, ask her, she was there sunning herself on that tilted rock, she can verify the story! LOL.

Yeah i know, a few members on here gave me a tip on where to get some crappies, but i opted to go for the hybrids first since like you said, the window is so small.
I didnt think about trying for them after dark just yet, i figured that would come after they spawn, or try to atleast.
Hmmmmm i might have to look into that!
man, congrats on such an epic day!!, you sure spanked the heck out of those hybrids!, you can solve your picure woes by taking along the next time, now I'm no MN fisher here when it comes to photography but I make sure the sun is where it needs to be!!

Thanks! yeah i was a happy camper leaving the lake that day!
i wasnt even paying attention to where the sun was at, i was trying to get a grip on the fish (no net and 2 treble hooks with a feisty small-mouthed fish = ticking time bomb. LOL) so i just set it on the tripod, set the timer and guessed where i needed to be. LOL.
my boat is usually always open to anybody that wants to go. its just a 14-15ft flat bottom, but its always more fun with somebody else.
FYI...blind folds are standard issue on my boat and you can keep them as a lovely parting gift once the day is thru! HA HA
