Default Caney Rain

Saturday a friend and I arrived around 7AM. Just as the heavens let loose with freezing cold rain and wind. We put the boat in anyways.

7-8AM
No generation. It was the lowest I have ever seen the pond at the dam. We did catch two trout and two bass. Cold but tolerable.

8AM-12PM
1 Generator
We anchored near the current and caught 25 trout and two bass.
Best Brown- 17 inches
Best Brook- 16 inches
Best Rainbow- 16 inches.
Best largemouth 19 inches and fat.

By noon our hands were frozen, rain had found a way around our rain suits, walmart bag (redneck galoshes) foot protectors in shreds, shoes full (brimming) with water.

12PM-1PM
No generation
After the generator completely stopped the surface erupted in hundreds of trout breaking the surface. Most were eating dead/dying minnows.
We tried slightly modified trout magnets and caught 12 more in around 3 minutes. We could have caught a lot more but literally we were so cold could not take the fish off.

Did not get a picture of the bigger trout. Camera on phone kept fogging up and I wanted to get them back into the water. I did attach photos of the bass.
The most bass I have every caught on the Caney in one day.

This year has been phenom. I can't wait to go again.

That's a cold wet day, but still a great day. What was lure of choice? I think you said crawlers last time.

Default Lures

We used a littel of everything. Topwater, spoons, Rapalas, minnows, and crawlers.

Good thing about the rain is less traffic, only one solitary soul on the dam steps otherwise a clear board. I like that.

I have never used minnows for trout. I need to try that next time up there. Me and a buddy drifted in my Jon boat from 9am-4pm yesterday and did well with spinners and Rapalas. Stayed downstream too long and had to pull boat thru the shallows.
