Caney Magic
I thought Sunday, post cold front, blue bird skies, wind from the North, would be a big goose egg. It was everything but.
Started around 10:30 tossing minnows in the single generation boils. Caught (7), released (5): (3) bows, (2) brook, (2) brown. No monsters but one of the rainbows was 13.
I fought the wind by the dam for about an hour before walking down towards the rocks- my honey hole this year. Threw minnows for about 30 mins had a few bites, no takers. Switched to worms. Holly buckets everything changed.
I caught 30 fish between 12:00-2:30. I had a bite every single cast.
Most of the fish were above average: 12-13 inches.
Around 1PM I hooked a hog (for me). I busted my butt on the slimy rocks netted it after a 5 min fight. 20 inch rainbow. I was exhuasted but thrilled. The very next cast I caught a 19 incher! My final fish was 16 inches. Of course all of these were released.
Caney never ceases to amaze me. The slot limit is new but I think we are already seeing some results.... I can't wait a few years from now to see what monsters shall lurk in the shadow of the dam .
