Default Watch out for those planer boards!!

I have on many instances had my lines run over by other boats that I believe in most cases they didn't realize what planer boards are or how they are used.
So if you see a boat with multiple rods in holder standing up or out from the side of a boat there is a good chance that they are running planer boards so please give them some room. Last year I was pulling a full spread covering probably 50 ft either side of my boat and another boat come by missed my boards by inches and he was waving all the way by, I know he didn't realize he just barely missed my boards, but the problem I had was there was a half mile of water on that side that he could of used. I always try to give fisherman as much room as possible when traveling and fishing also. So whether you bass fish crappie fish or just running up the lake, watch out for planer boards.
Also on a related topic when fishing the river I have had other boaters get upset when I pass running anything above idle. I myself would much rather another boat pass me at full speed than to come by half throttle or even idling. I would like to hear some opinions on this subject.

If I am in my kayak please don't come off plane to pass me. Keep distance but stay on plane......hardly any wake at all unless it is a bigger deep V.

Regards

I am with both of you. If you are going to pass me stay on plane and don't slow down. I do this when I am driving.

I also agree. It's better to pass, when safe, on plane rather than half throttle putting off 2 ft waves. It kills me that some people have no clue what to do when they pass another boat.

Yeah, its frustrating ... depending on who's in the idle boat, it's damn if you do and damn if you don't. I've been cussed more than once for running on plane on the river, yet when I cut the throttle back and shove out a two ft. wake, the idle boat seems to be pleased. I don't get that.

Pass me on plane anytime!

I have to admit a while back I was headed to Spring creek on OH saw a boat way in advance coming down river, I was watching for debris and the boat, its not common to see boards off to either side of a boat, (saw them all the time on Lake Michigan). When I finally saw them I had to cut hard, missed the outside one by maybe 20 feet. It might have been you, I don't know, but I would say only a hand full of people on the lake have ever seen them, its probably something that you might expect to happen, unfortunately.
I'm with the others on stay on plane just as long as your not so close I feel the mist from your wake (rooster tail)

Have a great day,
Ray

I've used inline boards for years and I feel it's my responsibility to make other boaters aware of them. With years of experience with them, you start to read which boaters are clued in and which are clueless of them. The ones I feel have no idea I'm even fishing even though I'm running 10 rods, I use the two handed wave to get their attention then point them out. Ignorance to boards can be expected in the south as a rule. Take it upon your self to make other boaters aware of there presence.
