Default Creek Wading 1/18

Hit the nearby creek today for a little wading. The bass were in the deepest holes I could find. Caught 3 and missed 4 on wacky rigged worm. Could've stayed and caught more, but one of my feet was getting a lot colder than the other! I have used E-6000 on the neoprene section of my waders before, but would it work on the boot/neoprene joint?ImageUploadedByTapatalk1390076255.533455.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1390076275.398319.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1390076293.115597.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1390076302.615189.jpg

Thumbs up

Love the dark lines on the bass ! Fishing creeks in winter is a lot of fun, the fish seem to be more willing to feed if you can find them. Kudos for toughing it out and getting (frost)bit.

That's going to be a tough, tough place to do a watertight repair. You could try doing a patch with the E-6000 and then cover it with a few coats of Aquaseal inside and out, and that might do it. I suspect you might be looking at a new pair of waders though.

Instead of going with neoprenes, consider getting a pair of Gore-Tex waders and just layering insulated warm clothing underneath. The waders will give you a little more versatility that way.

By the way, nice job on the bass. Creek fishing in winter can be TOUGH. I'm not going to ask what creek for obvious reasons, but how deep were the holes where they were holding?

I was looking at the same style that browntrout just picked up at BPS. I was curious if they would keep me as warm in the winter though? These are Magellan brand and I have logged a quite a few trips in them.
I will give that aqua seal a shot also.

The holes were 5' deep at the deepest points.

Water was clear/ high with a green tint.

They were holding against the bank in the deepest/slack water I could find. Not necessarily against structure though.

Wow, love the coloring on those fish. I agree with bd on the waders...I've tried repairing rips in the seam like that before and it would hold until the slightest stress was put on the area. Wet soggy feet are bearable in the summer but in winter, not so much LOL

Nice job! I always thought creek fishing wasn't a cold weather option but I guess I was wrong. I have several creeks around me that produced plenty of smallies in the Summer and early Fall. They're 5-10 minutes of a drive away so if I get bored one afternoon I may give it a shot. I just won't be in shorts and Crocs like I used to!

The waders alone won't, but if you wear layered, insulated clothing under them, the Gore Tex waders are fine.

The advantage is that you can adjust the clothing under the waders depending on how cold it is. With neoprenes, they can be too warm on those days when it's "borderline" for needing waders but still a little chilly for comfortable wet wading, especially when you've got a chilly early morning followed by a warmer day.

I agree. I have a thin pair of neoprene waders from Cabelas and I love them. I've had them several years and they still hold up fine, no tears. They're thin though so on cooler days it won't keep you comfy. Just wear layers underneath and you'll be fine. I think it's a better option to go this route because thin waders are cheaper and can be used in any weather with the right layers underneath.

This style just makes sense than. I will wade in the summer on my way to work and after and would like to have something that doesn't make me sweat in my work clothes. Thanks guys.
