Went to Pickwick today to test a new Trout Magnet hook for catching Gills....it has a much longer shank. Got into some good Gills from 7 to 9 inches. Really healthy and fat. They were spilling and the water over by the lock was about 33 feet deep. Took a long time to get that hook to the bottom....about a minute. But as long as I was patient and let it get to bottom only took a couple of twitches and I had a fish. After I caught about 20 I decided to try a 1/64 jig that Woody sent to me...hand tied. I rigged it just like the Trout Magnet....meaning a size BB split shot about 18 inches above jig. The one I used today was the black one....with some gold in it...a great little jig.....thanks Woody. A couple of twitches and they killed it too. Caught around 30 total. I didn't stay long as I am heading to Center Hill in the a.m.
Alpha, those gills are pretty chunky!!, starting to get some color on them too!!, those flies look good too! (nice flies Woody!!)
are these the ones people use on the float and fly method?? good luck on the hill tomorrow by the way!!

Thanks....you can really use any jig for Float'N Fly......and those Woody tied are going to be used tomorrow. They are small and with that little bit of flash should work well. We are going to first try for the crappie.....then big Gills....and then Float'N Fly.
