Gallatin Steam Plant-rough day!
Fished all around the steam plant today. Shallow, mid, deep....not a sniff! marked a TON of fish and baitfish. I jigged, live bait rigged, trolled, drifted, cranks, spoons....everything in the boat with a hook and nothing.
Not a good post but might be useful if anybody plans on fishing there tomorrow. Water was dirty. Swirling wind made it hard to jig especially when it blew up river.
Marked fish all over, so there are fish there, but i couldnt buy a bite today!

I've heard dynamite works well on those days.

Yeah, I was going to go last weekend but I canceled when I saw what all the rain was doing. I rarely have good luck there when it's muddy.

I took my kayak there last night from 6-10:30 pm. Only hit i had was on a jighead/sluggo combo. The fish actually pulled my kayak while I had an anchor down, so I think it's safe to assume that it was a large fish. My 8 lb leader gave out when the fish hit the afterburners and made my reel sing soprano. Heard a few fish crash bait, but not enough to keep me out there any longer.

A little advice, put on water proof pants under your waders. They keep me from chafing because I pee BETWEEN the pants and the waders. Makes clean-up easier, too.

I wear a lot of layers. I also wear rain pants to deal with paddle drip and the water coming off of my cast net.
I've been out there in far colder weather, and while I was never comfortable, I could at least tolerate it if the fishing was good.

Being uncomfortable is relative when one is outdoors. If the fish are killing it I am not too cold or wet....LOL. But if it is slow or non-existent I question my sanity as to why I came out in the first place...LOL.

Ain't that the truth. That is what I was thinking last Thursday in the pouring rain and temp falling like a rock. At least it was a catching day then.
