Thumbs up old hickory lake fishing report 11/5/2013

I went out this morning and started at the duck blind casting a small 3 wire umbrella which turn in to being a big pain in the butt.So I started casting the #5 shad rap in 5' of water with no luck, so I started trolling it in 12' and caught a 12 1/2" crappie and no more.So I tried trolling a 12" long 3 arm umbrella with three 3" power shad baits and caught a 25" striper and no more so I let all of the fish go for someone else to catch. So till the next time out.....woody

Good, healthy looking striper there! looks nice and solid!
Ive not had much luck trying to cast those umbrella rigs either, i dont want to have to go out and spend the money on a whole new rig just to cast 1 specific bait! lol.
Good report!

Good looking fish Woody. I see guys at Nickajack casting those rigs a lot. The things weigh a ton and make a heck of splash when they hit the water...LOL.

not many fish Woody but they are good quality ones, they do look very healthy, I have a few of those short umbrellas that I bough a couple of years ago and they have not touched the water yet, it is hard to leave the ultralight nowadays!!!

That is a good looking stripe. After seeing you guys killing it with the shad rap I am going to have to go get my a few for this weekend. I fish the A rig every now and again but I do not really enjoy doing it. It's hard to argue that they catch fish but it's a pain in the butt to throw ,even with the proper gear.

Nice looking striper, Woody. I guess most of us own at least one of those umbrella rigs. I have one tied on but have only thrown it a few times. But just in case the urge hits me, it's right there on my boat! LOL

Nice fish woody!

I don't own an umbrella rig, but have watched many people catch fish on them.

Nice fish woody! I make my own three wire rigs and can't wait to use them. Those sr5s never fail to catch a fish!
