Default Sad day on JPP

Fished JPP today from noon til 5 pm. Using minnows, bobbers, and jigs caught one 7 inch blacknose crappie, one 7 inch bluegill, lost one very nice (guessing 12".....hey! It's my story, I can make it as big as I want!) crappie boatside.

Also threw crankbaits, shakey head worms, texas rigged worms, top water minnows, spinner baits, and got nada.....ziltch...not even one hit. Unfortunately left my C-4 at home.

Purposely stayed away from trolling to try all the ABOVE methods.

But, at least I got out on the water and tried.

I think since I'm not going to catch any fish, I may as well fish Old Hickory since it is 8 minutes from my house to Rockland launch vs 45 to Long Hunter in Mt. Juliet.

I hope Alphahawk had better luck than I.

Merv....fishing for me the past 5 or 6 weeks has been horrible. I had one of my buddies at Nickajack call and tell me the crappie are not there as they have been for the past 35 years he has fished that spot. Maybe they are late...I don't know. My trips to Pickwick have resulted in maybe a couple of fish....same with trips to VFW and Laurel Hill Lake. It is also the same out at Williamsport....not much of anything. I hope it picks up soon.

Regards

Sorry to hear about your luck Merv, but any day on the water is a good day.

Yup, that's why they call it "fishing" instead of "catching"!

I think the fish are just confused because it's Fall but doesn't feel like it yet. The temps are about to drop for real and looks like it will stay that way so Fall fishing should be in full effect soon!

Priest has been tough. Went out Sunday morning and only caught one keeper size fish and a handful of unders. Went again last night and fished for 2 hours without a bite before I caught 4 keeper sized fish in 15 minutes.

This is the one good fish I caught Sunday. 21" 4.45lbs on my digital scale.

Haha sorry wasn't trying to rub it in. I just got one lucky bite. All the keepers I caught were on topwater stuff but once the Sun popped out they wouldn't touch it. The handful of smaller fish were on jerkbaits or lipless crankbaits.

Well Merv, I hate to hear that but sort of makes me feel better!, the last couple of outings have really sucked for me, weekend before last went on to Dale Hollow, trolled deep every bait I own yet I had not one bite, marked a lot of fish, fished the entire day until ran out of juice and lighting started to flare on the distance, then last weekend at Normandy I just knew I was going to get thick into them blacknose Crappies but to no avail, I never boated the first Crappie and only caught a handful of gills on the Bison colored TM with the largest one measuring at 8 inches pretty colored too but sadly this was the highlight of two trips, there I feel better now!!, hopefully someone would take me fishing soon to get the gorilla off my back!!

I'll be fishing OH (for the first time) this Saturday; my buddy's bass club is having a tournament, he has invited me as a guest and they are launching out of Rockland Park. Hope the fishing picks up by then!

Alpha, I meant to ask you about Nickajack, I know last year you were spanking the Crappie very consistent with very respectable size slabs, have you try fishing for them this year at all after the spring??
