Kayak Fishing TN Station Camp Creek Event 10/08/13
On October 8th 2010 we had another great success. We had 19 kayak anglers gather at Station Camp Creek on Old Hickory Lake this is our largest event yet. The event took off smoothly as expected and everyone was able to launch at 1715 after registration and a brief briefing.
Some anglers went back in the creek and some went toward the lake. There was a lot of bait back in the creek with bigger fish mixed in. Not sure if the bigger fish were largemouth or not, but the amount of bait made it difficult to catch anything. With crank I could feel bait bumping my spinnerbait. There were about eight or so anglers that decided to do what I attempted and work the creek, and nobody was having any luck. About dark I decided to head toward the lake and just before I did I hooked into a largemouth. I landed him and got him on the measuring board for a photo op he measured at 16”. That changed my mind and I decided to stay in the creek. I would not catch another fish.
Everyone had the required lighting which was great to see (Darrell Klien was supporting Super Bright green LED’s, Craig Dye, and Ron Champion sporting Supernova green LED’s).
Everyone safely returned to the ramp at the required check-in time of 2000. Of the 19 people who came 18 paid, 10 anglers caught fish, and 5 anglers caught two or more fish. The winning total inches of two fish was 28” by Mike McClean, 2nd was 26.5” by Craig Dye, and 3rd was Brock King with 26.5”, just out of the money was the owner of Tennessee Kayak Anglers Geoff Luckett with 26.25”. Big fish of the evening was 16"
I want to thank TK Walker owner of FishingTN.com for donating the customized FishingTN.com Fishing Team Kayak decals that were very well made, and a big hit with everyone. Also TK donated a $25 Bass Pro Gift Card to give out how ever I wanted. I took all the identifiers of the people who didn’t log any fish and threw all the identifiers in a hat and had someone draw an identifier. The winner of the gift card was Lester Skinner, and this was his first event for him to attend.
For the rest of the fall and through the winter we will be moving these events to weekends, some will be Saturday’s and some will be Sunday’s to see how participation is.
The next event is November 16th at Williamsport TWRA Lakes start time will be approximately 0900, and check-in by 1530.
