Default Furlough Fishing on the Cumberland (Clarksville Area 2 Oct)

Since the government is shut down, and I'm a federal employee, I am now on furlough, meaning I stay home with no pay until this mess gets sorted out. Well, Mr. President and crew, hand me lemons and I'll make lemonade...so of course I went fishing this morning

It was a gorgeous day out this morning; cloudy, comfortable temps, no wind, and best of all, it was only me, myself and I on the water. Matter of fact, when I got back to the ramp at 11:30, mine was the only vehicle with a trailer in the parking lot.

I started out catching both LM and spotted bass, on Senkos and an Ultra Vibe Speed Craw. I had another pic of a decent bass but it came out so blurry I couldn’t post it. After catching some bass, I switched tactics and started going for bluegill with my ultralight…unfortunately, all I was catching were the small ones so I’m guessing the bigger ones are still down deep. Then I ran back to the marina and fished for bluegill there using a 1/16 oz white rooster tail and I hooked into a 4-5 pound drum which I fought for what seemed like an eternity. I have the drag set pretty loose just in case I hook into something big because I only have 2-pound line on there. I managed to get that drum all the way to the boat but when I went to lip it so I could get my lure back, it turned and broke the line…oh well. That sure was fun though.

Those are some nice fish. Good way to make use of a few extra days off from work, I am sure you will get back pay once things get sorted out right?

Sorry about your job situation. Nice fish and nice pics. It's nice being alone on the water.....I experienced the same today at VFW Lake....good stuff.

Regards

When the dust settles, you will get paid for the 'furlough' just like last time.

Enjoy your paid vacation and catch lots of fish. Within a couple of weeks you will be OK.

I wanted to fish today seeing the weather, but could not. (did GM shut down today also haha....I work for a Ford dealer )

How do you like the new Marina and area around it, is it friendly to bass fishermen?

Not to turn this into a political discussion but with this president, who hasn't given us a raise in 3 years, I'm not expecting any back pay and honestly, I won't be looking for it because IMHO, if I don't work, then I shouldn't get paid either.

Fortunately it won't hurt us too bad because we've always put away for that rainy day but I know folks that live paycheck to paycheck and it will hurt them.

BUT

Halli - the new marina and surrounding park/area is awesome, the city of Clarksville did a great job. That ramp gets a bit crazy on the weekends with pleasure boaters and jet skis being put in and taken out which is why I try to fish on weekdays if at all possible.

Alpha - Yep, being alone on the water is great...I can't wait for the day I can be like you and get out there almost every day

Nice report. We went out on the Cumberland just up from you in Nashville and did just okay. My buddy caught this fat spotted bass on Saturday with a spinner bait in a current break. The bite slowed with the weather cooling on Sunday but I did catch one nice smallmouth after pulling pretty far off of the bank that didn't produce.
