Default Another good day.

This was my last day to fish before leaving for Arkansas next Wednesday. I couldn't stand it knowing those Gills have moved into my spot on the lake at Pickwick and just had to go back. The bigger ones are moving in. Caught a lot of 8 inch fish today and some almost at 9 inches. A lot of fun. Had a lot of Smallies following the Gills in. Hooked and landed a 24 inch drum on the 2# test. It was an epic battle....LOL. I knew what it was but wanted to get it in. Caught about 70 Gills total rigging the Trout Magnet wacky style on a 5mm tungsten jig head. They were killing it.

Regards

Nice gills there! What do you mean by "wacky style"?

The bite seemed a little slow so I tried different colors and that didn't help so just put the TM on sideways instead of threading it on the hook. They killed it. I have done this before but not much. I think Mike Dial has had some good results fishing them that way.

Nice going again, Alpha! Hmmm maybe you should save a few fishing reports for times like this when you leave; that way you can post them while gone and we get our daily dose of Alpha's fishing report.

YOWZER! Them's some nice bluegills!

And I recognize that spot from the water bottle and beer can on the rocks! (said the guy who's never been to Pickwick in his lifetime!)

Gotta love those drum, powerful fish. And I know what you mean when you say you know what it is on your line, but it becomes a battle, man against beast! If you don't get it in, unhook it and release it, you didn't WIN.

Once you handle it, release it, you are the CHAMPION!!

Whatcha doin in Arkansas?

Thanks Merv.....those bigger Gills should really be in there thick in the next week or so. My son and I are taking a fishing trip to the White River out in Mountain Home, AR. Browntrout has been trying to get me to go out there for years. The plan is to catch around 125 trout each day in the 16 to 18 inch range. I am told that should not be a problem and the fish will probably be bigger....and it is full of trophy browns so that is always a possibility too. Will be throwing cranks so am taking boxes of them with me......LOL. No Trout Magnets there as the river has too much flow to use them. It is going to be a great trip with my son even if we catch no fish.

Well, good luck. I hope you have a catch rate that meets your expectations. That would make for a fun trip. And I remember the days when my son and I would do the fishing trips to Canada or Ky Lake.

But he's in Wisconsin and we rarely see one another nowadays. Maybe later when he slows down.

Send us some reports so our lives won't be so dull!
