Got in the water today just after 6am and tried for rockfish. I know it's too late at that point, I meant to get up earlier but really wasn't feeling it when the alarm went off at 3am. I eventually gave up and kayaked way upstream and floated back catching numerous stocker size brook and rainbow trout. No size to speak of. Then in about 10 feet of water I noticed a tackle box...and a pocket knife, tshirt, and fishing rod. Looks like someone dumped their canoe or kayak and lost some gear. Very unfortunate but I wasn't about to let that stuff sit there. I retrieved the rod pretty easily but the tackle box was hard since it was in such deep water. I reeled my rooster tail all the way to the tip of my fishing rod and when I was positioned just right, was able to stick it down in the water and hook onto one of the latches on the box! It's a small clear box and had a handful of useful Caney lures in there.
At the end of the day, another interesting thing happened. I set the hook while trout magnet twitching and it was my first walleye ever. Keeper size too at 18" so it's going to be cooked tomorrow. Middle of the day catching a walleye totally on accident. I wish I could have brought home some nice sized trout too but oh well. I haven't been on that river in 4 months so it was great to be back. Can't wait to do it again.
Just in case that gear belongs to one of the members on here, if you can tell me the brand names of the rod and reel that was lost, I'll gladly return it to the rightful owner. Otherwise, I just got some free stuff
