Default OHL Sunday evening

I got out fishing on Old Hickory from 7 - 9:30 pm last night. Pretty evening.

It was just a quick trip so I hit an area that has been holding good bass all summer. It was actually kind of hard to stick with my original plans of fishing ledges and breaks into deep water because when I got to the boat ramp, fish were blasting shad all over the boat ramp cove. The shad are very small and it looked like most of the fish chasing them were small also, so I didn't stop to fish for them. Then as I went past some shoreline trees, the big brown mayflies were everywhere. Sunfish were eating them up along the shoreline. Wasn't rigged for sunfish so I skipped those also.

Finally getting to my fishing area, I caught a small bass right away, then broke a good one off in some rocks. After that I went to heavier tackle and caught 8 more in the next few hours. Three of them were solid 3 lbers like this one. Sorry for the lousy pic, but a cell phone in the dark is not great for a quality pic.

Probably could have added a few more good ones, but a rain storm rolled in and sent me headed home.

I did talk with the TWRA creel clerk and he said most people were doing poorly except for a couple guys fishing white bass in the jumps down near the dam. So far for me, this summer has been excellent fishing on Old Hickory.

Jim

PS - TNtransplant08 if you read this, some of those bass were caught on the plastic worms I bought from you Sunday afternoon

Nice looking fish Jim. I'm waiting for the jumps to really start at Pickwick.

Nice job Jim, looks like I need to get the fly rod and little ones out after some bream.

Nice! Glad you are putting the baits to good use. It was a pleasure meeting you last Sunday. Wish we could have chatted longer. If you'd ever like a partner in your boat, feel free to get in touch with me. I'm sure I can learn quite a bit picking your brain.
