Thumbs up old hickory lake fishing report 7/21/2013

Great day on the water and the jumpers are every wear and one taker on my 1/32oz feather jig under a float about 12". I was popping the float by making it splash it sounds like something hitting it and then moving it quickly like its trying to get away then stopping it and do it again. I found that it works best in shallow water and on sand bars early in the morning. I'm still trying different lures to see what works best because the bait fish are about 1" long and everything is eating them. A KVD top water will pick up the bass but nothing else and not all the time. A 6" black lizard only works if the bass are hanging close to the bottom. You need to know that I am fishing along the shore line and out to 6' of water and right now its a little tuff with all of the bait fish that's out there, but I will find out what works best and let you know..............woody

Looks like a good day. I shared the same experience on OH yesterday fishing up around Lock 4. TONS of baitfish everywhere and fishing was definitely tougher.

I just tested a cast master under a float about 18" to 24" and with a pop and pull retrieve caught about one every two minutes, as long as it was light out. That also was in ruff and windy weather, but soon as it got real cloudy and rainy it got harder for the fish to see it. I still caught fish but not as often. The cast master I was using was the smallest all silver one I could find and I was fishing from shore and having a great time............woody
