Dammit!
Wanted to go fishing below OH dam this afternoon. Hooked up the boat, loaded up rods and while hooking up the graph, noticed my power switch was in the " on" position. I had unplugged the onboard charger seven days ago and my trolling batteries were DEAD! DAMMIT!
And they had the spillways open too!!

Ouch, if it makes you feel any better. I've put in at the lake and then found out batteries are dead X2 even.

Well that stinks! Something draining them? Should be fine for that period as long as there is nothing drawing on them.

All the dash lights come on when the power switch is turned on. Can't really notice it in the daylight.
The boat has a cover on it and I had removed the power cord to the onboard charger. Had a new concrete driveway installed and can't/couldn't drive on it so I parked my boat next door in case I wanted to go fishing before the driveway was cured.
It took three days to put the driveway in and I'm not supposed to drive on it for ten days. With what I have invested in it, I'm not going to drive on it for ten days either!
So, in the week that the chargers were disconnected, the trolling batteries were not quite dead, but low enough I didn't want to tackle the tailrace below the gates without having full power.

my onboard charger is always plugged in 24/7 whenever possible. Had my current batteries for 3 years. Dualpro chargers are made to stay plugged in and help maintain your batteries.

Don't feel too bad Merv, my starter crapped out on jpp a few weeks back...on a Saturday in that spot you showed me. Around noon I tried to head back when I discovered the problem. I was trying to flag people down but they were blaring music and partying....$165 later I got a tow which is bs. Should have listened to you about the weekend traffic on that lake but I guess I had to learn the hardheaded way haha. To cap it all off, I got a speeding ticket too...and my favorite rod broke....and I didn't catch anything haha. Just a truly regrettable day!

Someone made you pay $165 to tow you in??? What happened to just helping a guy out?

I feel the same way...after fruitlessly attempting to get back to the ramp with my trolling motor I called a tow service out of one of the marinas.

Wow Greg! That really was a bad day!
The problem is there aren't that many fishermen out on the weekends and the pleasure boaters aren't as helpful as the fishermen are.
I had US Boater's insurance. They will come and tow you off of any lake/river in the US. If your trailer malfunctions, they will change tires, tow the boat/trailer combo home, (if the trailer/boat is attached to the vehicle, change those tires also), get you a jump for a dead battery, bring you gas.
Very reasonable rates too.
