Default Early summer river bluegills

I have been going to nice's mill the past week, and i probably caught 300-400 bluegill so far there. All of the fish were caught on live crickets, (they would not bite trout magnets, I tried). I have probably ended up with about 75 keeper gills, and 3 catfish, ( two were about 7 inches long, one was about 14 inches long). If you have never had small catfish, they are really, really good, especially if cooked whole. Today the river was a little up with a lot of trash in the water, so we decided to go to the West Fork boat ramp. I probably caught about 30 keeper longear sunfish, and only 3 keeper bluegills. The biggest difference for me was I switched hooks, to a size 8 eagle claw cricket hook. Another factor was the eagle claw balsa pencil spring bobber, and the 3/0 removable splint shot. Since my reel broke halfway throught the week, I had to use my backup reel. It was terrible, I had no feel in it, but I should be able to take my normal one back for an exchange soon. Anyway, if anyone is going to nice's mill looking for bluegill, fish in the slack water areas, and the whirlpools, it is on fire right now.

Smile Nice post ....<'TK><

I can tell you are dedicated to detail .... What you need to start doing is keeping a daily fishing journal ... date/weather/temp/Barometric pressure/ species caught/bait/Where and when .. depth etc ... This will be very beneficial later on in your fishing endeavors ... Do this throughout your Learning curve ... And in the future you will never be without fish ... are you going to make it to the Gathering ... I am sure everyone would like to meet you ... <'TK><

I will try to come to the gathering, when and where is it going to be? I am going to try to keep a fishing journal, I just don't know the how to find the barometric pressure, and the water temp.

Nice work. Those size fish will definitely eat a trout magnet, trust me. I discovered a small creek last night I waded through using only TM and caught 20+ assorted panfish in about 30 minutes. Some as small as 3-4 inches. Also caught about a 8" smallie.

Barometric pressure can be found on weather sites, just check them when you go fishing and make notes of barometric (air) pressure, temps, winds, etc.

An easy way to get water temps is to buy a stream thermometer. They aren't too expensive, and they are easy to use...just stick them in the water.

I was thinking exactly what TK was saying. You have a future ahead of you and you are on the right track. Keep up the good work, and the more notes you take the easier and more successful you will be year after year. It's all about consistancy.

Here's a link to the thread about the gathering http://www.fishingtn.com/showthread.php?t=6615

It's Saturday June 29th 10/10:30am at Sanders Ferry Park. We have the shelter all day. Looking forward to seeing you there.

I use Scoutlook for most of my data for my logs.
http://www.scoutlookweather.com/index.php, another site I use is Weather Underground http://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/...ashville%2C+TN

As for water temperature a small thermometer will work.

Here is what I use: http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/4644585

You can get hourly and forecast hourly barometric pressure.

Well I looked at my schedule and it looks like I can't make it. Are y'all going to have another gathering this year?

Sorry you won't be able to make it. We have talked about doing multiples (3 Spring, Summer, Fall), but if we can't get many to show up for one a year then I don't see the reason for having multiples.
