Default Nickajack 4-25-2013

Headed out to Nickajack with my nephew this morning. Arrived and started fishing at about 6:00AM. Immediately started catching black crappie.....caught about 15 fish. The bite turned off so we took a little break and looked at my Scout Look fishing app. The next major bite period was going to be from 10:35AM through 1:35PM. Had some refreshments and I told him lets go over to another place and try for some big white crappie around 11:00AM. We moved and were in place and the bite was on. Pulled another 15 fish out of the new place and they were all white crappie....really nice ones. We had a couple of 11 inch fish...and a couple of 12 inch fish. The rest were between 13 and 15 inches. Only one other person was fishing for crappie the whole time we were there.....one of my local buddies. Most think the crappie bite is over there....not so. It will go on for another two weeks. My nephew caught 12 fish under the float....I caught the rest. He does not have the twitch down yet. All fish were caught on a Bison colored Trout Magnet. The black crappie came out of 5 feet of water at a depth of 2 feet. The white crappie came out of 23 feet of water and were hitting at 7 foot depth. Water temp was 63 degrees. No bluegill were active. Nothing else was active that we could see. A couple of bass boats trolled by and told us they had no luck. A great day and a lot of fun. The cooler pic show first and second layer of fish....I think I reversed the name on the pics.

Regards

Man, I hate that all you could catch today were dinks. Maybe the big ones will be in there next time.

Nice job...

Thanks.....Believe it or not I catch a lot of Smallies....white bass....stripers.....spotted bass....and in the Fall I will search out large mouth. It is Spring.....it is crappie time and Gill time. Hopefully the Gill bite will last through August. My white bass fishing will start in early Summer. But I do love catching crappie and Gills. Really just a kid inside when it comes to fishing.

Well....it looks like the cold front didn't shut the crappie down after all! Oh wait, I forgot who it was fishing for them . Please send a little of that mojo up my way...if they won't take live minnows from me, I'm at a loss and need all the help I can get. Very nice fish, Alpha!

Those are the best crappie pictures that I have seen in a while other than one that Doug Markham posted on facebook today.

I know some of you on here fish Nickajack for crappie. I wanted to give an update. Talked to the guy I gave my crappie to after he had cleaned them. He told me the eggs hardly had any blood lines. Now this was in the white crappie only.....the black crappie are much closer to spawning....like any time now. So it appears to me that there is at least two more weeks of crappie fishing to be had there. Good luck to all.
