Default Old Hickory bass bite good

Wed, Apr 17, water temps 60 average, A friend and I caught 15 largemouth on main lake, 3-5 ft. within 4 hrs (10am-2pm) Best was a 4lb,12oz by my buddy. Used spinner baits mainly, and a few cranks. Fish are fat, but not on the bed yet, I bet they will be by next week.

Nice job, I can't wait for the bass to finally wake up in that lake. Looks like they may be starting too.

Are you the same Walt from the carp tourney?

That be me... I'll be chasing those guys again this summer.

A note on those 15 bass, 4 were keepers (14"), the big one was 21", we didn't keep any though, don't have a problem with those who do, I just prefer crappie, so as long as they keep biting, bass are safe

I thought you may be since you had the Fly South shirt on. I have been meaning to get to the tourney but soemthing always keeps me tied up from it.

What do you use for a stripping basket in the boat? Do you fly fish for bass any in OH?

I don't normally use a flyrod for bass, but my son always does. He uses a sinking line and has caught some pretty nice fish.

I don't use a stripping basket as my flats boat has a perfect flat deck, made for flyfishing. I say perfect, other than the dang trolling motor that sometimes grabs my line. Purists in florida normally don't run trolling motors on their flat boats, but since I use it 90% up here, 10% in saltwater, the trolling motor is a must.

Man plan is to fish more with the fly for bass this year. Usually is trout, some bass, some crappie, some bluegill and an attempt for carp. But this year other than a trip here or there with trout magnets or some thing else it will be mostly all the time fly fishing.

Just trying to figure out the best mean to keep the tangle down in my bass boat. Same as you, no matter where I seem to stand in the boat it finds the trolling motor somehow.
