Default Normandy 3/17

Water temp 53-55F
Wind blowing like crazy
Never been there but a buddy wanted to get out of the house so we went in blind. Put in at the ramp next to the bridge and headed for a cove out of the wind. Nothing. Next cove, nothing again. Saw a bunch of birds circling and diving at the water so figured bait fish. Got there and the wind blew us around so bad my trolling line caught up in the motor. Finally got that cleaned off and headed for a less windy area. Going a.ong a rock bluff in 45' of water, depth finders both read suddenly 6-8' of water then nothing. This happened in several spots along that bluff. I probed down with my rod, but never touched anything. Could the water temperature caused my depth finders to go screwy? It would read that it was 45' deep, but show what appeared to be a solid floor at both 8' and 45'. Caught a big carp but that was about it. No crappie at all. It was nice to get out on the water but some fish on my line would definitely be nice sometimes.

Sounds like to me there was big balls of bait 8" down. Sometimes the bait is so thick the sonar can't read through it.

I thought that but the "thing" never moved, even after fishing the area for several hours. With me new to fishing, I didn't know if baitfish will hover in an area that long.

Guess this is where that side image sonar would be useful.
