Default Finally !! Bill Haslem reply <'TK><

Dear Friend:

Thank you for writing to me regarding the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' decision to restrict access to tailwaters along the Cumberland River. Fishing is an important industry and pastime in Tennessee, and I know that these waters are a prime spot for good fishing.

I do not support the Army Corps' recent decision to restrict fishing areas near its dams in our state. Although the Corps says this action is a safety precaution, there are other methods to warn individuals when water is about to flow from a dam. I support Senator Lamar Alexander's efforts to change the Army Corps' regulation and know that he has recently introduced legislation in Congress that would prevent the Corps from enacting its plan.

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, the Tennessee Wildlife Federation and Congressional members from Tennessee and Kentucky have been fighting against this federal regulation. There are other ways to address this issue, and I believe there are more important and cost effective projects for the Army Corps to undertake. I am hopeful that they will change their position.

Warmest regards,

Bill Haslam

Though I do like the reply, I am disappointed he did not take an earlier and more aggressive stand on this issue.
