Well I proved today that when all conditions seem to be going your way, the fishing can still be VERY tough!

I made my 3rd trip ever to Pickwick today. I have fished there with Alphahawk and have caught fish with him and he has shown me his ways

Today was EXTREMELY hard! I fished the boils for a few hours this morning, it produced 1 skipjack. I then went to a point on the lake where we usually catch several species. I fished it for an hour, I caught one 1/2 lb bluegill. I then went to the lock, where there were 4 boats and 13 other guys fishing crappie, in 2 hours I saw 3 crappies caught. We moved down shore a bit and pulled in 2 more skipjack.

I saw across the river that several people had showed up at the boils, across the dam we headed. 2 more hours of fishing and we caught 7,386,385 skipjack. Literally every cast. Which was fun, but BIG whites is what we were after. 17 guys fishing along the riprap, not a white caught. We then tried a point further down river, nothing. Back to above the dam, thought I found them, 5 casts produced a very nice bluegill, a 13 inch smallmouth, Lost a very nice fish, but was fighting slow like a big drum, missed another and one cast in the middle of those was biteless. The next 45 minutes, not a bite.

Headed back to see if the crappie started in the lock, 22 people fishing, watched for 10 minutes, no fish caught, Headed home at 3:30 pm.

Total for the day, 2 nice bluegill, 1 smallie and 7,386,388 skipjack.

Everyone was clueless to where the whites went, last weekend they tore them up....figures.

Well, I still love it there and will be back this spring yet!

Sounds like a lot of fun.

Just remember you can pretty soon you can only keep 50 of those 7,386,385 skipjack.

The focus was floorboard to roof with skipjack! Now to get the smell out.... Ha, JK!

But, now that you brought that up, several people hauled large coolers full of them out today to freeze for cat bait!

Its actually 100 per day, I read the new Fishing Guide the other day....

Doug Markham had a good post today on FB. Said he and his buddy were catching the whites on the mud flats in the Cumberland between OH and Cheatham.

And I know aquaholic could turn you on to some whites if you ask him. He's a great guy and a great fisherman.

Well hey at least you didn't make that long drive out there and get skunked! A few fish is better than nothing. I know for a fact those large whites will hit crappie magnets! Maybe next time. It sure was a beautiful day to be fishing though, I was locked inside studying for my 3 exams this week

Yes, the skipjack did save the day, and I have caught several whites on crappie and trout mags. I know they eat them And as far as how nice the afternoon was...I got my first sunburn of the year
