Default sauger fishing today

Well, that was a wonderful morning of fishing! NOT!

Put the boat in the water, parked the truck, let the dog out. He ran down the ramp and into the water. He got out real quick. then he wouldn't walk on the expanded metal bridge leading to the dock, had to carry him.

Motored two miles downstream with him trying to drive the boat from my lap. Got to my fishing area, shut down the motor, started taking out a fishing rod. I hear a splash and turn around and see the Snorkster in the river....39 degree river. He's back there splashin around, tryin to figure out why he couldn't walk on that stuff while I deploy my trolling motor and go get him. I had foreseen this possibility and had thrown a big bath towel in the boat. Grabbed him by the scruff of his neck and dragged him in, dried him off a bunch, then threw him in his cage, on his bed, and covered him with another towel and locked him in.

Then I got to start fishing. On my first drift, (the river was running very fast today) I got a bite, set the hook, snapped the top 18 inches off my rod! But I've still got the fish on and I want to see this behemoth that snapped ME OFF. Cranked it out of 40 feet of water...13 inch sauger. 2 inches below the legal limit!

Fished for two more hours with no more bites. Gave it up and came home......

Great story man, enjoyed reading about that epic trip. It's a lot less painful reading about it than experiencing it. I'm not even gonna post my trip yesterday. It does not begin to approach the the magnificent outing you had!

Thanks Alphahawk, I deserve sympathy after that outing. Oh...and last night while I took a "horizontal life break" (nap), the Snorkster chewed off the end of my USB phone charging cable! SIGH! I love this dog......
