Default Caney 1-26-2013

Went to the Caney today and it was pretty tuff. No big browns but did manage to catch a few bows. One about 3.5 pounds. Not sure why I didn't catch any big browns unless Old Sailor and Jad2t have caught and ate all of the big browns ( sorry guys I couldn't resist). I guess time will tell. Also didn't see much wildlife stirring today. No eagles, no gulls, no deer, no turkeys. No shad coming through either.

Haha not me, my biggest is 22" and surely it's over 24 by now unless Old Sailor got to it first and ate it! I'm still waiting for my keeper. A 3.5lb pound rainbow sounds like a good one. Nice work! It sure is a nice day to be fishing.

When do the shad usually come through? After it gets real cold? I am going to try tomorrow afternoon.

Good work. Have a seat for you monday; we could build a fire and have a shore lunch.

Man I wished I could. Hopefully in a couple of weeks if we still have water. I am thinking they should still be running. Have you heard when they are going to fix that other generator?

Default Full Moon

I dont know if it has anything to do with it but I noticed that there is a full moon tonight. I bet those big browns are feeding at night right now. I know some of you fish for them under the full moon at night during the warm months. Just a thought, I am trying to rationalize in my mind why I didnt catch any big browns today.

That is always a tell tale sign for me fishing will be tough. I have a pasture across the road from my and before I leave if its light I look for the cows. All the cows laying down = never a good day on the water.

Don't know the particulars as to why...but its an old rule my grandfather went by and its held pretty much true for me too.

As far as the moon... It tends to be better on the days leading up to and after more so than on. I find though if they run water pretty good during the day the fishing at night isn't as good regardless of moon. A night bite I want low water for a day or so preceeding it at least.

When I was A boy my dad would take me bass fishing on woods reservoir , and he would see the cows laying down and say, " we'll catch em deep today son"; If they were standing we'd use topwaters. I can assure you it's all smoke and mirrors, folklore, pure poppycock ! Eh Travis could you give me a bowvine activity report for 6am this morning ? I need it for my logbook.

I am sure a lot grandad told probably was folklore... LOL. He was good at telling a tale.

They were out and moving around yesterday morning. Today they are way back on the other side of the field along the tree line. Can just make them out but they are moving around.

We'll mythbuster this old belief.

Fish only bit for me between 8- 10 am and 4-5 pm yesterday. Did they lay down during the day ? We may have to set up an observer or a security camera to get proper data.

I don't remember for sure. It seems like they were because I was shooting basketball outside while the little ones were sleeping. That would have been 12-around 2pm when I was outside.

When are you going again, I will try to keep an eye that way and see what they do here while you fish there.
