Default Thank You for your Work From Doug Markham <'TK><

Doug and I talk frequently, and has said many times that the FishingTN Members have made a difference .. Here is another copy of his post from CreekSmallies Thread at the top of the forum page ... And I want to thank you as well ... But the Battle isn't over yet. Rick Duty who has championed this cause since the beginning has done a lot of research and made a lot of contacts ... If we can do 1/10 as much by contacting our State Rep's AGAIN !! I think we can stop this thing ... Thanks to all the Members and I know some members don't even fish the tailraces ... but has contacted their reps ... Why ?? Because we don't want to loose anymore Freedoms that our Government wants to Take ... <'TK><

Everyone, thank your work on trying to stop this commander from changing our traditions in Tennessee. There is no reason this shouldn't be stopped by our representatives in Congress.

Someone pointed out that LTC Delapp is out the door before this can even be done. You are correct.

But, let's not let him get that far. I understand he is already sending out teams to measure for signs or buoys. I have have heard he is a nice guy, but this arrogant and the only thing I want him to do is leave town and leave us alone.

We have all these congress folks showing up and I believe that McGavock High School will be key to stopping him. If you have friends, bring them. If this doesn't stop this move----we need answers from our representatives who by now have to know how poorly the COE has handled this issue. It's been one sneaky and calculated move after another--down to misrepresenting the safety record below dams and that boats were involved in all of the deaths.

The Corps will tell you that the "key stakeholders" were talked to, but go visit Billy West at his tackle/gun shot in Turkey Creek a mile from Cordell Hull Dam. He didn't get a call and neither did Smith County Mayor/County Executive Mike Nesbitt. Nor did Lyon County Executive Wade White in Kentucky.

The truth is that the Corps wanted to get this done with as little attention from fishermen as possible.

We need a huge showing at McGavock H.S. on February 5. But, we probably need to address many of our questions to our Washington representatives as possible. LTC Delapp is just going to tell us he is doing his job and there isn't anything he can do to change it. I promise this guy has been schooled in how to answer questions. Our answers need to come from folks that manage the COE's purse--and it is a huge purse which, unfortunately, gives the COE a lot of power to do abuse their power.

How many of you got to comment in 1996 on this policy that LTC Delapp says he must abide by? I bet the answer is zero. Our Washington representatives need to tell us why that is ok---we don't need to hear it from the commander. He will have an answer for you and it won't be satisfactory but he will give it and move on.

Stay together and be together on Feb. 5th. T.K. and Rick Duty and all others that are looking deeper into this---Thank you!

In my 26 years working in the outdoors this is the most dangerous encroachment I have seen on our rights as sportsmen but also just on an agency grossly handling something so poorly using their size and influence in Washington.

See you on the 5th! --Doug M.

Me too. Miss those guys & their show.

having written to both senators, Jim Cooper & Col. DeLapp's office, I hope that others are getting more than the "thanks for writing. Your concerns are important to us" form replies that I received. Col. DeLapp's office replied that I need to attend the "public information" meeting @ McGavock, which I interpreted to mean that they will inform us what they are going to do rather than listening to public input.

Maybe we should bring torches & pitchforks. That would get the message across!
