Water temp?

Anybody know what the water temps are in the Cumberland river today, 12/11/12?

I'm not sure about the water temperature is, but taking advantage of the increased flow would be wise...

old hickory website says 58 at rockland today. Was on caney yesterday water temp 55.

Wow! Two weeks ago the Cumberland was 49-51 degrees! Hard to believe it rose that much.....

I can't imagine 58 degrees, like it says on the corps' site is accurate. Warming moving water that much while being subjected to below-freezing air temps is a bit improbable.

I am always suspect of the corp temp readings. Did a trip to Center Hill several times based on their temp readings only to find they are off by 10 degrees.

Can somebody help me get water reports for the Cumberland River at Old Hickory dam? I have tried getting the data from the USGS website but not having any luck trying to get it to work.

I am most interested in water temperature (F) and also stream flow and river gauge height. I would also like to be able to see a week of data if at all possible.

If you know how to format the USGS site and could send me the link I would be forever grateful.

Water temp yesterday was from 47-49 degrees. Here's a link to the TVA site where you can get flow information and river height data.

River gauge shows 398 elevation. Normal summer pool is 386, meaning the river is running 12 ft deeper than normal. They are dumping 28,000 gallons of water PER SECOND, so that means the river is really rolling below the dam. It is also pulling a good current from upstream. Yesterday there was tons of logs and flotsam in the river. Had to take it slower than norm and keep your eyes sharp to miss all the debris out there.

That explains it...I was going to go out on the main river today but man oh man, she was nasty looking, tons of debris in the water and a very strong current. I was wondering where all that current was coming from.

Glad to see the water temp FINALLY getting into the 40s this year. These 60 degree days are just crazy. We need a good stretch of cold weather to get a shad kill started.
