Since 1970, 14 people have died as a result of accidents that occurred beneath the dams on the Cumberland River system, according to the Corps.

Does anyone know how many people have died since 1970 above the dams on the lakes created by them. I bet it is more than 14.

There has got to be some other reason they want to close it to boats. The corp is just not telling why?

The more I think about it, the more a "national security anti-terrorist protection" could be the end label. I can't argue that totally. If something was to happen, not just the people immediately downstream due to flooding but look at all the people that will be effected by water that is taken from the lakes. The public would run out of water in a much more broad area too.

Did the TVA warn of the Steam Plant's closing access before locking the gates to the banks after 9/11 or did they do it first answer questions later. Whether that was the actual reason or an excuse to do it is not clear to me but very ironic.

I have settled to the fact its going to happen just a matter of when. Now, I am on to really wanting to know why they say it needs to be done.

I read the article and I didn't see the Center Hill dam mentioned. Did I miss it, or would that not be affected?

I didn't either in the article but there is no way they leave it out but include Percy & Dale. Must have been left out by mistake.

Let's pray it was just an accident. I can't begin to imagine the self-righteous fly fishermen talk that would ignite if all are that way but Center Hill.

On my recent trip out West where I went to eight states fishing for trout I found tail waters below dams where you can no longer get near the dam.It seems that roads have been closed off and barriers set up to keep you from wading toward the dam. The San Juan in NW New Mexico is that way now,Taylor River in Colorado,Frying Pan,and others.
It all has to do with the concern someone could get close enough to do something wrong.
