Fished my new (to me) aluminum 18ft Fisher Hawk boat (75 HP Mercury Force) yesterday with MPD816 and his lovely wife, looking for crappie.
Beautiful day, really tough fishing. We caught four or five crappie, only one keeper (MPD got the honors for that one).
Fished brush piles from 10 ft to 24 ft using minnows on bare hooks, minnows with bobbers, jigs, jigs and minnows, jigs w/crappie nuggets, drifted, vertical jigged. The only thing we didn't try was trolling.
The company was excellent, some good times joking around while the fish weren't cooperating. Beautiful weather (probably why the fish weren't biting).
BUT! After fishing out of my bass boat for years, I have to say the aluminum boat is a little less stable than the glass boat. When all three of us fished the same side of the boat, it tended to list a little, something I never experienced with the glass boat.
I'll fish out of this boat a couple more times to see if I want to switch. If I'm not comfortable with it, I'll put it up for sale.
