Default Pickwick 10-19-2012

Had my knees juiced up yesterday with a couple of steroid shots. Came home and iced them down off and on for the rest of the day and when I got up this morning felt like a new man....LOL. So decided to go to Pickwick.....it is about 35 miles shorter than Nickajack and wanted to see how the knees held up before taking the longer trip. Had a decent day. It was tough fighting the wind all day with light gear but it was good to be fishing. Had a mixed bag today. Caught 3 Smallies...all like in the pic...12 inches long. Had 3 Large Mouth that were quite stuffed with minnows. Caught 8 of the Spots at 12 inches each. Got into the Cats today. That is quite a mess to get your line cleaned up after catching one....but still fun. Caught plenty of Gills but nothing over 8 inches today....and I measured all if it looked close....but couldn't get any past the 8 inch mark. The lake is very clear...temp is 71 degrees according to two baas boats that trolled by me. Caught all of these fish on a purple and sometimes a black Wooly Bug. It is a fly jig made on a #8 hook and 5mm tungsten bead. I think it is wrapped with chenille. After 3 or so fish about 1 inch of the material would come unwrapped and I would cut that off and it would be OK after that. Really a nice jig to get to deeper water with. My son and I are planing to hit Center Hill on Monday in the kayaks....hoping to get some Spots and Smallies. Then Wednesday and Thursday back to Pickwick. As I said earlier the wind was a bear today. The current was pulling the jig from left to right and the wind was strong from left to right which put quite a bow in my line. Sometimes hard to feel the fish....but life is good.

Regards

Sounds like a good trip. I bet that largemouth was a tug on the light line.
