Default Old Hickory Crappie

Has anybody had any luck with the crappie in shallow water yet? Haven't been in a long time and trying to plan a trip when my chances are best. Wife is fighting breast cancer so free time is limited.

Prayers are with you and your family hogdawg.

We were out looking for them on the 30th in the main lake. Found tons of bait but not one sign of them at all. My guess is they haven't moved yet at that point. Water then was mid-70's.

Checked today and water at Rockland was 64 this morning on their site with reports of crappie starting to be caught in deeper water.

Default OH Crappie

We'll have your wife in our prayers also.

I got out a couple hours Saturday evening (3 to 6) and put 8 keepers in the boat with several short fish in the mix. I was tight lining a red 1/16 jig with a Bobby Garland MoGlo chart. slab slayer. I fished docks that were in 6 to 10 feet of water, the fish were about a foot off the bottom, water temps were in the mid to low 70's. I was working in the Bledsow creek and Barton's creek areas.
Just a side note, it was the first time fishing with my 2 1/2 year old grandson so I was busy keeping him from empting the fish out of the livewell At this point all he is interested in is casting and playing with the "fishies" in the livewell, wait till he sees a bucket full of minnows!

Have a great day,
Ray

Hogdawg,

Best wishes for your wife.

I haven't been crappie fishing much, but talked to a friend on the water over the weekend and he had a good basket of crappie. He was catching them on with jigs in brush piles in 8 ft of water.

I know the scene. Here is what my 3 year old likes to do while we fish. You can see the tail of a shad in his hand.

Either that or eat snacks

Jim
