Nickajack 10-09-2012
Arrived at Nickajack at 6:00 AM....but did not start fishing until around 7:00 AM. By 9:00 AM I had my limit of 15 fish. All fish were between 11 and 12 inches. All fish were caught on a Bison colored Trout Magnet. Hung around about another hour and a half just playing around catching more Crappie. My buddy Jamie stopped by to say hello and assured me that the 14-16 inch fish are coming. Jamie has fished the lake since it was impounded so I guess he knows.....plus he showed me another Crappie hole to fish...like I needed another one....LOL....but I guess you cant have too many. The fish were still holding tight to cover. Nickajack Crappie are really healthy Crappie. These fish are really thick. Stopped off at tail race on way out but did not get a single hit. There were some bass and Whites in the jumps every so often just out of my casting range at the Crappie hole. Will finish out the week fishing at Pickwick.......those Gills down there are calling me....LOL. Will hit Nickajack next week again.
Regards

Those crappie do look nice.
I ended up deciding to try Berkley Trilene 2lb since I did not want to order the other and can't get up to Joel's where he probably has it on the shelf. I'll buy some then too but for now 330yds are on my spinning reel ready to get used.
Need to find me a good bank place like that for the lil one to hang out too.

Alpha,
Great to see the crappie are back, they are the healthiest I've ever caught, the filets on 15 from the Nick would rival 25 filets from OH. I made a sales trip down that way about a month ago and caught some small to medium gills, had a blast but nothing worth writting about. I've met a couple guys down there, not sure who Jamie is what does he drive? Were you fishing from the yak or shore.
One of these days I'm going to figure out how to post pictures from the cell.
Thanks for the report

Well first off you have to find a place that holds the fish you want. I have had a lot of help over the years. As a matter of fact had it not been for this forum and "clean air" on here I would have never made a trip to Nickajack. He did not tell me where to go to find the Crappie...but due to his input about fishing the tail race I went and then scouted around. I do fish other lures. But at least 90% of my fishing is done with Trout Magnet...Crappie Magnet. I love catching Gills...Crappie....Trout and Small Mouth, and those lures are great for them. If I get serious about Striper and Large Mouth I use other lures.

No I never said those Crappie were caught in the tail race. I have 7 Crappie spots down there but none are in the tail race.
