Default Bumpus Mills to Donaldson Creek

My friend and I put in at Bumpus Mills today and fished several coves and ended the day across the KY state line in Donaldson creek. We didn't catch a lot of fish, but the awesome scenery and great weather made it another good day to be out on the water (ok, any day is a good day to be out on the water ).

Full report with pics here:

And I caught my first smallmouth (please Tennesseejugger, don't tell me that isn't a smallmouth )

Every time we go out, I think I spend more time gawking at the scenery than I do fishing and I'm so glad we decided to buy a house here and hopefully we'll retire here...that's the plan, anyway.
We were strictly bass fishing (my buddy is in a local club) and bass is all he's really interested in so it's mainly run and gun fishing with the trolling motor going the whole time but once I start going out by myself, I'm going to slow things down and fish for everything, especially crappie. What amazed me was that cove after cove and almost all of them were empty...no one was fishing them.
One last thing...are all "smallies" that strong? I thought I had a 4-pound largemouth on the line at first with the way that smallie was fighting.

Yeah there's big difference between smallmouth vs largemouth of equal size. Kinda like the difference in getting slapped by your girlfriend and sucker punched by your wife when they find out about each other...
