Caney Fishing advice

I was think of driving down from Gallatin to fish on Caney this weekend. I have never fished there before so I don't know much about the river. I looking to wade and mainlly aim to catch trout. Also any advice on good areas of the river to do this would be much appreciated. For convenience I would like to stay closer to Gallatin but wouldn't mind driving farther for better locations.

you need to check generation. and sluice at the caney. from what they have been running no wade fishing. but you could try from the bank.

It all depends on the generation schedule so you MUST check that beforehand. That calm shallow river turns into deep, fast moving, and dangerous during generation. I highly recommend you don't go anywhere near Happy Hollow if you're coming on a weekend, you will be elbow to elbow with other fishermen and crowds of people with music blasting, kids throwing stuff in the water, making all sorts of noise, and swarms of canoes. Go to Betty's Island, it doesn't get as much pressure. The Kirby Road access point is even more remote but it's about a 20 minute longer drive.

Small rooster tails and trout magnets are the way to go, you'll catch trout all day.

You might also want to check out the Obey (below Dale Hollow), especially if the Caney is running too high.

What is the the typical center hill non generating tailwater elevation?

There will be no wading this weekend this weekend on the caney, forecast is 2 gens all weekend long.

There are fish to be caught, but you will need heavier spoons, jerk baits, swimbaits, not your everyday low water trout fishing.

If you want to wade and catch trout this weekend drive over to the Springfield winter trout stocking at Sulphur Fork creek. That will be about it unless the Obey is off or you hit Hatchery creek that runs into the Obey by the campground.
