Crazy! That happened on Lake Minnetonka in MN a few years back. Also said it was probably someone's pet. Crazy though!

It seems like you hear about this every few years. Surely they wouldn't survive the winter would they? I don't think they could but it would suck if they could and reproduced. I've had red belly piranhas and they would make short work of decent sized goldfish.

I mean with the great photography of the fish in the news article and all it should be an open-shut case.

That is not a piranha..Same family but not a piranha. Travis you are correct that is a pacu...When he say "his teeth are broke off" that was a dead giveaway..Pacu have crushing teeth so they are flat and not pointy..How much you wanna bet when the biologist gets there and identifies it as a pacu you won't hear a peep about it..How convenient though at the end he's says "it could be a pacu"...

Piracu
A friend of mine, who fishes once a year, caught a huge Piracu from a dock in Percy this summer. It probably weighted 8 lbs. He have it to a Korean woman.
The DNR said it was an aquarium fish that survived and once or twice a year they show up. If global warming pans out, we might just have an Amazon in our back yard.
