Default Laurel Hill 8-15-2012

Great day for kayaking at Laurel Hill. Almost like a Fall day. Got into some really nice Gills...and of course the Cats. Caught 12 Cats....most 15 inches but had a couple at 18 and 19 inches. The female Gills were at 9 inches and the males at 8 inches....of course the males fight harder. All the fish were chunky. The water has cooled and the Catfish bite is on like crazy down there. Jugs running around all over the place....LOL. Spent about 5 hours on the water and was averaging a fish about every 5 minutes. Talked to the TWRA Officer that lives there and is over the TWRA lakes in region 2. He thinks this week or next will wind up the good bluegill bite. Almost time to go see if my crappie are where they should be...LOL.

Regards

How do you tell the difference between male and female on the bluegills?

On my posted pics look at 1760.jpg and 1762.jpg...those fish have yellow bellies or pale bellies.......those fish are females. Now look at 1756.jpg. That fish has a bright orange belly.....male. Males will also be darker in color. Before you ask about 1755.jpg...that fish is a male Copper Nose bluegill...LOL. But the same will apply....males are darker and females lighter in colors. Hope that helps.
