Walleye. Good one too. Below Old Hickory? Go here to download a PDF document for Walleye, Sauger and Saugeye identification.

The white tip on the tail is a give away for walleye.

Nice fish.

Nice Walleye. I have seen thousands of Sauger come from below Pickwick Dam over the last 12 years. I have caught some there myself...biggest being 21 inches..that is a big Sauger. The state record is only a little over 7 pounds for a Sauger. While it is hard to tell the weight of a fish in a pic had that been a Sauger it would surely have been one of the largest caught in this state..LOL.

Regards

Default Good Catch

I think you have a walleye. I would need to see the spiny dorsal fin to be sure. I fished for saugeye in Ohio for many years and caught over 400 the winter of 1991-92. They usually have the markings of both the walleye and sauger. Here is a link to Ohio saugeye identification. The Ohio record was broken not long ago in a small trout filled lake in Columbus, Ohio. I think it was 14+ lbs. Congrats. on a fine catch.
